Biography

Dr. Sunghee Kim serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Interim Director of Chapel Music at Valparaiso University where she teaches organ lessons and organ related courses. She also holds positions University Organist and conductor of the University Kantorei. Prior to her work at Valparaiso University, she served in a faculty appointment at Pennsylvania State University at Abington and as Director of Music at Concordia Lutheran Church in Wilmington, Delaware and Pleasant View Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

An accomplished organist, Dr. Kim is a former first prize winner in the Fort Wayne National Organ Playing Competition and William C. Hall Competition. She is also a devout church musician. Since the onset of her musical career as a church accompanist at the age of nine, she has directed choirs and instrumental groups, played organ/piano/harpsichord, and led hymn festivals.  

Dr. Kim holds degrees in organ performance and literature from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, University of North Texas, and Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. Her teachers include Christopher Young, Marilyn Keiser, Larry Smith, Jesse Eschbach and Bruce Neswick.
