Rev. Paul Hoffman

The Phyllis and Richard Duesenberg Endowed Chaplain Chair

Biography

Paul Hoffman comes to LSM in the coming summer to serve as chaplain as a long-time friend of the program.  First serving as chaplain at LSM 1992 at St. Olaf, he also served in 1995 and 2013.

An ordained pastor of the ELCA, Paul holds a call from the Northwest Washington Synod as a Writer and Teacher for the Larger Church.  For 18 years Paul served as pastor at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle, and prior to that in congregations in Nebraska and Texas.

Paul is a nationally recognized speaker and teacher on the topic of baptismal theology, having served synods, congregations, and various other assemblies as a lecturer and workshop leader on this topic.  Just prior to coming to LSM this summer, Paul will be a featured speaker and preacher at Shared Bread, a conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helsinki, Finland.  He is the author of two books on the topic of adult faith formation – Faith Forming Faith and Faith Shaping Ministry.

As a music major in his undergrad years and an avocational organist, Paul enjoys the riches of our Lutheran musical and liturgical tradition.  He brings a deep passion for passing that tradition on to the students and staff of Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival.

Paul and his wife, Donna, live in Seattle as do their two adult children, Jacob and Lauren, who are both LSM alums.
