Double Bass

Matthew Jahnke is a dynamic bassist and educator, currently serving as the Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) Professor of Double Bass. He earned his B.Mus. in Double Bass Performance and Music Education from Lawrence Conservatory of Music, where he studied under the guidance of Mark Urness. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. His current research interests include Felix Mendelssohn’s engagement with Lutheranism in Germany and COVID-era policy effects on students’ educational skills and frameworks.

Matthew serves as the double bass and bass guitar professor at Concordia University Nebraska. Formerly, he taught orchestra at Cheney Middle School. Matthew performs regularly with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, Wonderland Orchestra, FM Opera, and has also performed with the Fox-Valley Symphony Orchestra, contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape of the region. In addition to his ensemble work, he is a passionate private lesson instructor, dedicated to guiding students on their journey with the double bass. As a former LSM participant, he has a deep personal connection to the program and its values. Through his unique blend of performance and educational expertise, Matthew strives to help students in their musical and spiritual growth
