Elective Options

This year’s Musical Theatre electives will be led by Liz Gray (Director) and Eric Sayre (Music Director). Two elective options are offered for LSM 2025:

  • Musical Theatre meets every other day during the Blue Elective, joining with the Musical Theatre Intensive class. This class will provide the opportunity for students to learn and apply fundamental tools and techniques of singing, acting, and dance for the stage with a focus on large ensemble. 

  • Musical Theatre Intensive meets daily, during both Green & Blue Electives, and will focus on further developing these techniques through an active rehearsal process of scenes, solos and small ensemble work. 

Participation is only open to Full Session students, and all participants will perform in a Musical Theatre Showcase during Festival Week. Musical selections for the 2025 showcase will be taken from, but not limited to, shows including Hadestown, Jesus Christ Superstar, Wicked, The Sound of Music, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls and Jagged Little Pill. 

Musical Theatre Video Submissions

All students interested in either elective must submit 2–3 short placement videos by May 15, 2025. These videos will be used to assign solos and small and large ensemble parts for the Musical Theatre Showcase. Please read the directions below carefully and share your video submissions as unlisted YouTube links (preferred) or Google Drive links. If using Google Drive, make sure the sharing settings allow anyone with the link to view it.

While all students will be accepted, we strongly encourage thoughtful preparation and review of the materials—the quality of your preparation will play a key role in determining part assignments.

1. Vocal Video Submission (required)

  • Directions: Perform from memory with the accompaniment track playing in the background. Record your video in horizontal (landscape) orientation, making sure the camera is framed to show you clearly from the waist up.

  • Materials (select your most comfortable vocal range, in whichever octave you prefer):

2. Acting Video Submission (required)

  • Directions: Perform Janis’s lines from memory, skipping those of Cady and Damian. Record your video in horizontal (landscape) orientation, making sure the camera is framed to show you clearly from the waist up.

  • Materials: Script Excerpt

3. Movement Video Submission (optional)

  • Directions: Submit up to a 30-second video showcasing your dance experience. This could be a recent performance clip or something filmed just for fun. This is not required but encouraged if you enjoy dancing!
