Thank You, Dr. Bruce Atwell — Celebrating 26 Summers of Service

This summer marked the end of an era at Lutheran Summer Music: after 26 summers of dedicated contribution to our horn faculty, Dr. Bruce Atwell is retiring from LSM. His first summer was in 1999, and since then he has been a constant presence, shaping countless young horn players and enriching our musical community.

Dr. Atwell’s distinguished career in performance and education has been reflected throughout his many years at LSM. He is Professor of Horn (Emeritus) at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and has served as Principal Horn for the Fox Valley Symphony. He has also held positions with the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, the Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Ballet, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic, among others. His performing credits include appearances with the Milwaukee Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and as acting Fourth Horn with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Atwell for giving LSM over a quarter-century of summers, for investing in young musicians, and for helping sustain the high standard of horn instruction at LSM. As he steps back from service, LSM looks forward to celebrating his legacy and wishing him a richly musical retirement.

Please join us in expressing heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Dr. Bruce Atwell for all he has given to LSM. His contributions will be felt here for many summers to come.
